AAUA, Indiana University Purdue University Commence Academic Collaboration Talks

…AAUA to Host Global Entrepreneurship Summit Next Year

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, began collaboration talks with Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis, USA, on Tuesday, Nov. 29 , 2011, to further deepen and strengthen the two Institutions’ academic programmes.

A don at Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis, USA, Professor Bessie House-Soremekun, led a team of the American University to begin the talks with the Management of Adekunle University.

 The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Prof. Femi Mimiko, requested for collaboration in the areas of student exchange, staff exchange and library resource.

Prof. Mimiko, who highlighted the achievements of the University, particularly in the areas of infrastructural development, students’ and staff’s landmarks and quality of curriculum, said the University had earlier signed Memoranda of Understanding with four other foreign universities in the past two years.

He said, “The proposed MoU with IUPU would further strengthen our effort towards internationalisation of the University.”

Responding, Professor Bessie House-Soremekun said, “We will be delighted to work with Adekunle Ajasin University under the MoU.  We are not going to sign on behalf of our University but we will be able to advocate for the development of the MoU.

“We are going to ensure that we partner with your University in the areas of entrepreneurship development, student exchange and library resource.”

Other areas of collaboration covered during the talks included deepening of AAUA curricular and admission of AAUA students and staff for degree and postgraduate programmes by the Indiana University Purdue University.

AAUA also indicated to host the next Summit of the Centre for Global Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development where Prof. House-Soremekun is Founding Executive Director. The Summit will be attended by over 1,000 participants from across the world in October next year.  

The Talks Session was attended by the Principal Officers of the University.

 

American Don Commends AAUA’s Infrastructural Development, Academic Programme

A don at the Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis, USA, Professor Bessie House-Soremekun, an African-American, has eulogized the tremendous infrastructural and academic development at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria.

Prof. House-Soremekun said she was awed by “the beauty and serenity of Adekunle Ajasin University campus, the massive infrastructural development at the young University and the garlands achieved by the students and staff.

Prof. House-Soremekun said this in chat with the University’s Information Unit crew in the Vice Chancellor’s office on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.

She also said, “Adekunle Ajasin University is a wonderful University with a beautiful campus. We are excited that you are expanding.”

Prof. House-Soremekun made these comments while responding to the presentation of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, on the modest achievements of the University.

On the efforts of the University to inculcate entrepreneurship skills in the students, Prof. House-Soremekun said, “The University is growing and trying to procure a great deal to educate your population and prepare them for private employment opportunities. We are here to partner with AAUA; to work with the University to develop some facilities over the next two years. Our University is working with 45 countries of the world and Africa, including Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.”

Prof. House-Soremekun, who also delivered a paper at a seminar on “Entrepreneurship Education in the USA – The African-American Perspective”, organized by AAUA Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, commended the leadership of Adekunle Ajasin University for “introducing the students to entrepreneurship and for putting the University on a fast lane of development.”
